UAIM Scholarship Program
Empowering Refugee Youth Through Education
Education is not a privilege—it’s a right. Yet, for many refugee students in Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Malaysia, the dream of going to school or completing their exams is often out of reach due to financial constraints.
At United Arakan Institute Malaysia (UAIM), we believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and displacement. Through our Scholarship Program, we provide critical financial support to refugee students from low-income families—giving them the opportunity to continue their studies and build a better future.
What do we do?
Under the UAIM Scholarship Program, we help cover:
- Examination fees
- Tuition and school fees
- Accommodation and living expenses
Since the beginning of this initiative, more than 100 students have received our support, allowing them to stay in school, prepare for exams, and pursue their dreams with dignity and hope.
The Struggles Refugee Students Face
Many refugee families in Malaysia live hand to mouth. Parents—often day laborers or unemployed—simply cannot afford the high cost of education.
- Some students are forced to drop out due to unpaid school or exam fees
- Others struggle with attendance because they can’t afford transportation or school materials
- Talented youth give up on dreams of becoming doctors, teachers, or leaders due to financial constraints
For them, the UAIM Scholarship Program is more than a financial aid—it is a lifeline to opportunity, dignity, and purpose.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“Whoever relieves a hardship of a believer in this world, Allah will relieve a hardship from him on the Day of Judgment.”
(Sahih Muslim)
