Access to medical treatment is a basic human right, yet for thousands of refugee families in Malaysia, it is a luxury they simply cannot afford. At the United Arakan Institute Malaysia (UAIM), we believe no one should suffer in silence simply because they cannot pay.

 The Harsh Reality

In Malaysia, medical expenses pose one of the greatest burdens for refugee families. Most refugees:

• Do not have legal work rights,
• Are excluded from government healthcare subsidies,
• Face overwhelming hospital bills,
• Are at risk of legal action when they cannot settle their payments.

We have witnessed mothers struggling to give birth safely, patients needing urgent eye surgeries, and chronic illness sufferers denied proper treatment simply because of financial constraints.

 How UAIM Medical Aid Helps

Through your generous contributions, UAIM’s Medical Aid program has already supported numerous families by:

1. Covering costs for childbirth procedures
   2. Funding eye operations and critical surgeries
   3. Assisting patients with chronic illnesses like diabetes and heart conditions
   4. Preventing hospital-related legal consequences due to unpaid bills

Each case is carefully reviewed, and aid is provided based on urgency, severity, and financial need.
Some medical bills reach RM 5,000 to RM 10,000 or more, especially for surgeries and hospital stays.
